Massachusetts Civil War dead picture album, ca. 1870-1880.

Album containing 44 hand-tinted photographs and collotypes of Massachusetts officers who died in the Civil War. Subjects include Nathaniel Bowditch, Joseph Pitty Couthouy, Wilder Dwight, Robert Gould Shaw, John Sedgwick, and Frederic Winthrop, among many others. All of the subjects are identified by an index in the front of the album. The photographers and collotype artists are unknown. The album was owned by Civil War veteran Theodore Lyman, Jr. and was probably assembled between 1870-1880.
